Kimono My House
Brand Identity/Art Direction.
2021.
Kimono My House is the product of talented designer Olivia May, who left the world of luxury fashion to create and craft her own sustainable kimono brand. Inspired by vintage workwear kimonos, Olivia's aim was to create stylish, practical, everyday kimonos for any gender.
Olivia had already hand-painted her own logo and turned her handwriting into a typeface, so the human connection and personality in this brand was already strong.
My goal was to highlight the natural form and function of the kimono across the rest of the brand, using constructivist and industrial feeling typefaces. The rectangular nature of the pockets influenced design layouts, and Olivia's colour palettes for the actual kimonos influenced the brand palette.
We also took colour cues from Olivias natural surroundings in Devon, as a nod to the sustainability as well as the original kimono design - the Garden Kimono. Whilst the brands original greens will remain as core colours, the palette will flex to add new colours as new kimonos are introduced further down the line.
